Associated Pacific Constructors has become California’s one-stop destination for dock services from start to finish, including initial assessment, design, permitting, and final installation. Whether you’re in the market for a commercial or residential docking system, APC is your singular resource to get the job done with unprecedented quality, convenience, and timeliness.
Our Bluewater Marine Aluminum Dock System
Associated Pacific Constructors utilizes the Bluewater Marine Aluminum Dock System for our commercial and residential dock structures throughout southern California. We’d like to take some time to break down the different components that go into this system, which we believe to be the most effective, appealing, and highest-value system on the market today.
Aluminum Dock Structure
This dock system includes an aluminum dock frame. All of the structural components within the dock system are comprised of 6000 series marine-grade aluminum. Additionally, all welding of these structures is completed by certified aluminum welders, per AWS D1.2 standards.
Dock Flotation
All floats in the docking system are comprised of 100% virgin LLDE, filled with molded-in-place virgin 1pcf expanded polystyrene, meeting all USCG standards — including the Hunt absorption test. These floats will be as specified and pre-installed to respective dock sections.
All docks in this system are to have a 22” minimum freeboard under dead load only. The dead load of the docking system consists of the weight of the structure as well as all utilities, dock boxes, ramps, boarding steps, and other applicable dock accessories. Floatation components of this dock system will be designed to support the dead load plus 20 PSF live load applied to the entire area of the deck surface, maintaining a minimum of 12” of freeboard.
Dock Decking Material
The decking material in the Bluewater Marine Aluminum dock systems consists of Fibercon Paramount composite PVC decking, which comes in a mineral color to be utilized for the dock surface. This material can withstand a 100 pounds/square foot live load without degradation to performance. Decking will be secured to dock structure with 316-grade stainless steel fasteners. An alternate IPE 5/4 x 6 decking material is available for an upgraded cost.
Continuous Utility Trough Cover Panels
The BWM dock system is designed with below-deck utility troughs to accommodate the required utility runs. To best access these troughs, not only during the initial utility installation but also for future upgrades, and inspections, BWM provides easily removable cover panels for these troughs.
This system also allows for porcelain pavers to be installed, with the color and finish to be determined by you, the customer.
Dock Fenders
Rub strip fenders will be pre-installed throughout the perimeter of the dock where vessels can be moored. Our standard fender material is non-marring PVC in black color. An optional upgrade to the Heavy-Duty fender is also available.
Dock Cleats
This docking system provides an installation of cast aluminum magnesium 535 (ALMAG 535) cleats, which includes 12” long cleats for all slips 49 feet and under, and 15” cleats for slips over 50 feet, including all T-heads. Cleats are mounted in our custom side extrusion and are fully adjustable to suit boaters’ mooring needs. All boat slips have six cleats total — six on the fingers and two on the main walk, with additional side cleats for longer slips.
Dock Mooring
To secure your new floating dock system in place, we propose using a combination of 16” diameter round and 18” octagonal concrete marine piles. Preliminary design shows a count of 98 of the 16” round piles, varying in length from 40’ to 45’, with an additional 16 of the 18” octagonal piles at 50’ in length. We’ll provide the engineering and calculations to determine the exact number and required lengths and embedding of all piles. Your dock system will be designed with both internal and external pile guide pockets, including heavy-duty UHMW rub pads.
Dock Fasteners
All necessary bolts, screws, and hardware for the completed dock system shall be supplied by APC. This hardware shall be stainless steel Type 316 (ASTM A167-99), with allowable tensile stress of 20,000 psi, and allowable shear stress of 1150 psi.
Rounded Finger Ends
Bluewater rounded aluminum finger ends provide unrivaled structural support and style integrated into each finger. These ends are fabricated with the same heavy-duty structural aluminum members within our dock system and can be configured with integrated pile pockets. Being able to eliminate the corners of a typical square end finger has been hugely popular among boaters.
